The matriarch leads her herd from one watering hole to another. Sometimes they pass through tall grass forests, completely hidden except for the occasional snorts, trumpets, or flash of their extended trunks.
Again, this painting was born based on a fun query as to how much information the brain requires before it is able to jump to a conclusion and fill in the gaps.
A single dot on a page means little to most, but increasing the number of dots and patterns forms either ’friend or foe?’ It's a primitive function we all possess to one degree or another. We all know in our awake conscious self that such a thing doesn’t exist, but our primitive unconscious is not going to take any chances. It takes a long time to formulate the idea and present the piece on canvas, A kind of reverse engineering if you like. Proportionately more time is spent thinking about the piece than the application of paint to canvas.
There are a number of my paintings that follow this process of subject, thought, and colour. Should you wish to know more? I am happy to explain my painting.
